There is something transformative about the shift from a Winter’s chill to the first signs of Spring. That is where creating a Spring bucket list comes in. It’s not just about a checklist of tasks; it’s about visual intentionality. By moving your seasonal dreams from your head onto a page decorated with simple doodles and bright colors, you turn a "to-do" list into a "want-to-experience" list. It’s a way to honor the season, slow down, and ensure you’re making room for the small joys that make spring feel like a fresh start.
1. Pick Your Journal
First step to creating this Spring bucket list is to pick a journal! Any kind will do but today I’m using the Archer & Olive Songbird in Blue 8x8 Square Notebook. The cover is soft, durable, and beautifully finished in this gorgeous blue shade.
2. Create a Dutch Door Flap
To make this bucket list even more functional, we’re starting with a Dutch door. This is a creative journaling technique where you cut sections of pages to create flaps or “doors” that open to reveal underlying content. I love using these because they allow us to see our main bucket list doodles while having a dedicated space to track when we actually do them. For this layout, we’re going to create a vertical flap in the center of our spread. If you’re nervous about cutting your A&O pages, I would definitely suggest a paper cutter, a ruler as a guide, and a craft knife to keep that edge perfectly crisp! Just be careful with this step, go slow and make sure to protect the back page with either a cutting mat, or even cardboard.
Now that we have our flap, we’re going to turn it into our Spring tracker. On the front and back of this Dutch door I’m adding the months March, April, and May. I’m keeping these very minimal—just simple boxes for each month. You can write in the days for each month or use a rubber stamp set to make it so much easier. The goal is to have a spot to circle the date or add a tiny star whenever you complete one of the items from your bucket list. It’s such a satisfying way to look back at the end of May and see exactly how you spent your season.
3. Make Your Bucket List
It’s time to bring this spread to life with some Spring doodles. I know that sometimes a blank page can feel a little intimidating—especially if you aren't feeling super confident in your drawing skills—but I have a hack to make this step incredibly easy for you. I’ve created a free download of all the doodles I'm using today!
The best part about this printable is that you can just print it out, cut out the doodles you love, and paste them directly into your journal. I love doing it this way because it allows you to play with the composition. You can arrange and rearrange them around your Dutch door until you’re happy with how it looks before you commit to gluing them down.
4. Add Some Color
Now that we have our layout arranged and glued down, it’s time for my favorite part—adding the color! This is where the spread really starts to feel like Spring. I’m using some of my favorites, the Archer & Olive Calliograph Pens. You can use whatever you have, whether you prefer the vibrant look of markers, the soft texture of colored pencils, or even the nostalgic feel of crayons, anything works. So take your time and have fun with it!
5. Write Your List
Now that our spread is full of color, it’s time to finish up this bucket list with our prompts. I’m starting by drawing small, simple checkboxes. Beside them, I’m filling in the activities I’m most excited for this season. If you’re feeling a little stuck on what to add to your own list, don’t worry. There is so much inspiration out there! I love scrolling through Instagram or Pinterest for ideas, or you can even check out the Archer & Olive community hashtags to see what everyone else is planning for their seasonal setups.
