Hi everyone, it’s Delphine (@delphinesjournal) from the Archer and Olive (@archerandolive) ambassador team. To be honest, I’m not the biggest fan of winter, with its early darkness and biting cold. But over the years, I’ve started to realize that shifting my mindset and adding a few cozy rituals can transform winter into a season I enjoy. In today’s blog, I’ll be sharing a spread filled with tips to make peace with this season.

1. Create a cozy environment
To embrace this season, my first tip is to try to make your environment cozier, so that you actually want to be there on those dark evenings. Swap harsh overhead lights for warm ambient lighting, like floor lights, table lamps and candles. Layer your couch with throw blankets and soft cushions to bundle up with a good book.
2. Romanticize the season & dive into your hobbies
Try to cherish this period by writing daily gratitudes in your Archer & Olive notebook. Writing down your thoughts and small joys in a journal can actually shift your mindset about this season. Another way to romanticize this period is to let yourself unwind and take warm baths in the evening.
I mean, winter is all about slowing down, so lean into it! Dedicate time in your day without your phone and curl up with a good book, or light a candle and journal. This might even be the time to learn a new skill, like crocheting, knitting, watercoloring or baking!
3. Embrace the cold (if possible)
As a Canadian, I know how cold it can get. But sometimes, the best way to embrace winter is just to bundle up and try an outdoor activity, like snowshoeing, walking, skiing, skating, sledding or going sliding in a winter park!
4. Get creative indoors
When it’s just too cold outside, bring the fun indoors. Host a book club with friends, go to an escape room adventure, organize a fondue night, or plan a YouTube craft tutorial watch party!
5. Spend a weekend in a cottage
Some of my favorite winter memories involve going to a cottage for a weekend. Picture this: board games by the fire, snowshoeing around a frozen lake, and then coming in with rosy cheeks for hot chocolate and homemade cookies. I highly recommend planning a little escape with your loved ones, it’s the best!
