Adding Interest To Your Page with Banners and Headers

Adding Interest To Your Page with Banners and Headers

Hey, Jess here. If you’re looking for ways to add some fun color and detail to your pages, I’m sharing some ideas on how you can make the most out of the tops of your pages by adding banners or headers using items you might already have on hand.

Hey there, it’s Jess Francisco from @lovejessco on Instagram, YouTube, TikTok and the Archer & Olive Ambassador Team. If you’re looking for ways to add some fun color and detail to your pages, I’ve got you covered! I’m sharing some ideas on how you can make the most out of the tops of your pages by adding banners or headers using items you might already have on hand.

Supplies:

Ink blending in progress at the top of a journal page

Ink Blending

One of my favorite ways to add ink to my journals is with a technique called Ink Blending. You use an Ink Blending Tool to take ink from the ink pad and then apply it to your paper. This transfers the ink and gives your notebooks beautiful, colorful additions. I like to move the blending tool in a circular motion to avoid harsh lines in the blending. This can take a bit of practice, but once you get the hang of it you’ll be an ink blending machine! Here’s a tip - use scrap paper or a low tack tape to block off the areas you don’t want ink to go - this will give you a crisp clean line when you remove them.

Washi Tape

Washi tape is such a great way to add interest to the tops of your pages. With so many great options to choose from at Archer & Olive, the possibilities are endless! If you choose a thicker washi tape, it’s quick and easy to make a bold statement. Just use an exacto knife to trim off the excess and you’re ready to roll.

Collage Paper

Collage paper is another fun way to add interest to your page tops. Many of the monthly themed planner kits come with fun patterned paper. Put them to work in your spreads! You can use a paper trimmer to make the paper the height and width you’d like, then just glue it right into your notebook. This is a quick and easy way to get beautiful results.

Use Titles and Hand Drawn Accents

Creating your own headers for the top of a page can be a great way to customize your spreads. You can try using Calliograph pens to hand letter a title and then add accents with a fineliner. You could also try your hand at drawing your own banners or illustrations with a fineliner or other markers. The sky is the limit!
