Hi, friends! 

It’s Char from the Design Team,  and today we’re getting into the spooky spirit with some Halloween doodles that you can incorporate into your journal. 

Supplies For Halloween Doodles

Below is a rundown of some of the products I used to create this spread. If you would like to purchase any of these products, remember to use the code CHAR10 at checkout to save yourself some money.

• A5 Dot Grid Notebook - I would highly recommend using one from the Halloween collection to get yourself into the spirit with these doodles! I also think these would look awesome on some of the Blackout Notebooks with Acrylographs instead of Callios. 
• Calliographs - These are amazing for layering colour, and I love that you can switch between the fine and broad tips depending on how much detail you need to go into.
• Gel Pens - I love using the white gel pen to add highlights to really make these doodles pop. The neon green really made the title pop here, too!
• Fineliners - I used the Sakura Pigma Micron in 0.1 to outline the doodles on this.

Add a spooky title

I used this drippy, gooey font for the title to really drive home the spooky vibe of this spread. I love how the gel pen outline really makes it pop on the white paper, but I think it would look even better on black pages!

Sketch out your doodles

Start your doodles with a light pencil sketch to help you space things out before you go in with ink. Feel free to make this a double page spread if you have even more ideas than what I’ve included here.

Colour in your doodles

I like to add colour before I outline, but this is definitely a matter of preference. By initially building the form using colour rather than line, I find the end result looks much more multi-dimensional. 

The calliographs layer beautifully, so don’t be afraid to add one colour on top of another, or even layer the same colour on itself to build more depth or mix colours. 

Outline and finishing touches

I prefer the look of using fineliners more sparingly to make key areas pop once you’ve added all of your colour. I like to keep a light hand with the outline rather than a solid, thick line all around - but again, this is just personal preference. If bold lines are your thing, go for it! 

Finally, I love to use the white gel pens to add highlights to key points of the drawings. Let all of the ink dry, then erase any remaining pencil marks.
