Setting Up a Social Media Planner in your Undated Planner
Hi, I’m Jen Field from @plannerfield. Today, I am going to demonstrate how I set up an Archer and Olive planner for tracking and planning my social media activity.
I find that as my Instagram account grows, planning and tracking helps me stay motivated, organized and helps me to identify which posts are the most widely reached.
WHAT SUPPLIES WOULD YOU NEED FOR A SOCIAL MEDIA PLANNER?

CREATING A SOCIAL MEDIA TITLE PAGE
I suggest personalizing your title page. Along with my name and dates I’ll be using in the planner, I like to decorate it with my own individual style.
YEARLY SPREAD - FOR INSTAGRAM FOLLOWERS
I find the yearly spread is perfect for tracking my number of Instagram followers. Each morning when I wake up I take a screen shot of my Instagram bio to get my number of followers. Later in the day I note the number of followers in my yearly spread. It motivates me to see my account growing.
DECORATING WITH ARCHER & OLIVE STICKERS
I’ve decorated most of my planner pages with the Archer & Olive floral stickers. You can keep it simple and use a few stickers here and there, but I like to express my creativity and use a multitude of stickers in different ways. First, I decide on a color, style and theme, and then I use these techniques:
A: Anchor the page with largest stickers in the most prominent places. Using tweezers not only keeps the stickers “sticky”, but it also helps me position them more accurately.
B: Place the large-sized stickers first, alternating colors and designs.
C: Cut up the stickers so I can create my own design.
D: Place the medium-sized stickers next, filling in the gaps and distributing them around the spread.
E: Cut up remaining stickers to make tiny stickers. Look at all of your available stickers—even the small designs in washi can be cut up and used.
F: After trimming and handling the tiny stickers, they tend to lose their stickiness—I use a glue stick so they don’t come loose.
G: Applying these little stickers is so satisfying—the whole design seems to come together before my eyes.
H: Carefully trim the stickers that hang over the pages. Sit back and enjoy your beautiful new creation.
I’ve set up my monthly spread for two purposes:
The first is self-motivation and encouragement. I struggle with self-worth and sometimes get overwhelmed by finding my place in the Instagram community. I use the calendar to track my accomplishments: shout-outs by others and when my designs are featured in various media and special comments. Documenting these positive outcomes reinforces my self-worth.
The second is organization and reminders. In the sidebar and unused calendar blocks I write to do lists: spreads to design, themes to use in the upcoming weeks and shopping lists. This is helpful because I can see all of my tasks at a glance.
WEEKLY SPREADS FOR SOCIAL MEDIA PLANNING
In my weekly spreads I plan my posting schedule and keep track of what I’ve actually posted each day. I also journal about what projects I’ve completed. At the bottom right of each spread I’ve placed a circle sticker to write in the number of new followers I’ve gained that week.
DOT GRID SPREADS TO HELP WITH SOCIAL MEDIA PLANNING
I find these extra pages so incredibly useful for writing about end of month achievements. This calendar month I had an unused weekly page, so I used that page too! I set up one page to track my Instagram insights: posts with the most comments and likes, my total number of posts / videos / stories and the number of new followers and subscribers.
Another use I’ve found for the dot grid spreads is to track my current subscription boxes and their themes to ensure I’m using the products. I also listed photography backgrounds and props I’ve made or bought that month, as well as what I’d like to use next month. On another page I listed my personal goals for the upcoming month. Lastly, I brain dumped a list of video ideas.
FINAL THOUGHTS ON THE UNDATED PLANNER
I’ve tried many types of planners, but this Archer & Olive planner is special. It feels permanent and substantial, and when I write in it, I find it elevates my mood, helps me set my intentions, and makes me feel like my plans are worthy of it’s beautiful paper.
